Tad and Sara are now my favorite power couple and Tiffany was an interesting replacement for Freddy as the tritagonist. In summary, Tad 2 is a lighthearted globetrotting adventure that should please fans of animated blockbusters thanks to its gags, twists, fun locations and endearing characters. Each film combines a wacky adventure with a significant life event that makes the characters grow. Whereas the first film was about how they met and shared a passion, the second film is about how they become a couple. By the time of the second movie, Tad is pursuing an archaeology degree, Sara is shining star and Tad is planning on asking her to be his girlfriend. In the first movie, Tad only dreamed of being an archaeologist and Sara worked in the shadow of other archaeologists. What I appreciate the most though is following the characters’ lives. It’s nice that they made her a female character since the first film had Freddy in this role.

Speaking of Tiffany, her character definitely went in unexpected directions and it was quite a bold choice. This was nice because Tad, Sara and Tiffany were more interesting as a team. I was at first disappointed that Sara got kidnapped, but then I was happily surprised that she was reunited with Tad a third into the film.
#TAD THE LOST EXPLORER AND THE SECRET OF KING MIDAS 2017 MOVIE#
In fact, the movie surprised me a couple of times. The archaeological mystery is pretty straightforward, but not entirely predictable. I expected some Turkish garment in Cappadocia, but they subverted my expectations by making him dress as Tad! The mummy dons various costumes to blend into the human crowd, like an Elvis costume in Las Vegas and a flamenco dress in Spain. The dog, parrot and mummy are also comic relief. This second installment gives us Spanish stereotypes in the form of an amorous taxi driver. The first movie derived humor from Sara’s hot body and on-the-nose Peruvian stereotypes. The mountainous environment looked believable and it was a blast watching Tad slide down the glacier on a paella dish! I would easily recommend this film to those who enjoy the animated films of Disney, DreamWorks and Illumination.īe warned though, the Tad movies have an irreverent style of humor. I particularly enjoyed the wide shot of Andalusia and the snowy mountain scene. The animation is up to current standards too. It’s funny enough to stay entertaining throughout, which is not a small feat, especially for a relatively small studio. They are also accompanied by a sentient mummy from the first movie. This quest leads them to Granada, Spain and Cappadocia, Turkey. Tad teams up with Sara’s assistant, Tiffany, to decipher a notebook left behind by Sara to guide them to the treasure. During the presentation, Sara is kidnapped by a man who wants to steal the treasure for himself. Sara, now a world-famous archaeologist, invites him to attend a presentation in Las Vegas about the treasure of King Midas. In the second movie, Tad is back in Chicago and is now an archaeology student. In the end, Paititi turns out to be populated with sentient mummies. Tad flies to Peru where he meets the professor’s colleagues, including a young archaeologist named Sara, and together with a local guide they investigate the ruins of Paititi. One day, the professor receives a mysterious artifact connected to an Andean civilization. He is friends with a local professor of archaeology and often brings him his discoveries, which always turn out to be banal. In the first movie, Tad is a construction worker from Chicago who dreams of being an archaeologist. While the first feature established a box-office record in Spain, the sequel did even better locally, grossing €18 million against a €9 million budget. The sequel, titled Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas, came out in 2017. He was adapted into a first feature film titled Tad the Lost Explorer in 2012. Tadeo Jones – or Tad Stones in English – is a character created by Enrique Gato for a short film in 2004.
